Shatner and Orci respond to Captain Kirk returning to Star Trek
Over the last few days, rumors have begun to circulate that Roberto Orci could be considering a reunion with William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy for Star Trek 3. With the rumors gaining traction, despite the sense that there’s a bit of bad blood between Shatner and the rest of the original Star Trek cast, both director and talent have responded.
Roberto Orci (talking to TrekMovie.com [via Collider]): “Not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining my integrity as a truth teller. The movie is not the movie till it is in the theater. Until then, everything is a rumor.”
Let’s talk ST. I don’t know anything about the current gossip. Nobody has contacted me. Right now it’s just rhetoric to cause hype.
— William Shatner (@WilliamShatner) September 23, 2014
Our opinion is, if Shatner were involved yet trying to keep quiet about his involvement, his response might have felt a little more favorable, and even if Orci doesn’t flat out deny the original Kirk being in the film, considering the story that has already been established and why Nimoy can still play Ambassador Spock, unless Orci decides that somehow the original Captain Kirk can make his way into the new timeline and convince and pay Shatner enough to reprise his role, this rumor may yet remain grinding in the mill until, as Orci says, the movie is in the theatre.

McConaughey: “This is the grandest adventure I think any of us will ever see on film … This is the biggest film I’ve ever been a part of. This is one of the biggest films anyone’s ever been a part of.”
Hathaway: “I am so excited for the world to receive this film, because there’s going to be a new conversation I believe will happen because of it… It’s not a dry, science-based film. It has a pulse. It’s got blood in its veins.”
