San Diego Comic-Con 2014 News Reel Part 2

Welcome to Part 2 of our special SDCC 2014 News Reel! As Marvel and DC had their time at Comic-Con, so did a multitude of other films and TV series, and all had reveals of their own to show. Here are the highlights!

Star Wars Rebels Trailer and Clips

Rebels2

After their trailer release last week before Comic-Con officially started, Lucasfilm used their time in San Diego to premiere several new clips from the upcoming Star Wars Rebels as well as a new full length trailer. The clips give us more of a visualization of what the series and its characters will be like from scene to scene, while the trailer pumps up the action.

The trailer, as well as being action packed, gives us a closer look at Force prodigy Ezra (voiced by Taylor Gray), Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus (voiced by Freddie Prinze, Jr. putting on his James Vega Mass Effect 3 voice), and the big bad Inquisitor himself (voiced by Jason Isaacs). The trailer also showcased the early Empire beyond The Inquisitor, featuring AT-ST’s, TIE Fighters, and the other usual suspects.

Star Wars Rebels had a great showing, and is looking like a very strong continuation of the Star Wars saga from where Revenge of the Sith left off.

Interstellar Panel

The final panel of Paramount’s presentation at Comic-Con after a long list of not so exciting announcements came in the form of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, an upcoming space odyssey set to the background of a dying world searching for new light. Both Nolan and his star Matthew McConaughey popped their Comic-Con cherries with their surprise appearances, and not only held a panel discussing the film’s production, back story, and McConaughey’s character that lead to an audience Q&A, but also resulted in the premier of the newest trailer for the film.

Interstellar also stars Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and Michael Caine, and comes to theatres November 7.

The Walking Dead Season 5 Trailer

Walking Dead

The highly acclaimed series The Walking Dead held their panel to talk about the upcoming Season 5, one of the most anticipated shows of the year. Complete with cast members and producers, the panel discussed their character’s journeys from Season 1 to the present, the story and the possibilities in the upcoming season, and dearly departed characters and their loss’ effect on the cast. The Walking Dead crew also had a trailer up their sleeves for their Comic-Con audience, and it already has fans fretting over the survival of their favorite characters into Season 6.

The Walking Dead premieres on AMC on Sunday, October 12.

Horns Panel and Trailer

Horns

At their small panel with director Alexandre Aja, star Daniel Radcliffe (Comic-Con newbie), and author Joe Hill, Radius released a trailer for their the cleverly twisted Horns at Comic-Con showcasing the acclaimed adaptation of the novel of the same name. Having had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year and receiving some high praise from critics there, Horns could truly be a dark horse come Halloween fright season, with Daniel Radcliffe’s performance really showing off his blooming talent (though his accent slips a few times) as he plays a young man accused of the murder of his girlfriend (Juno Temple).

Check out the official trailer below.

Horns also stars Max Minghella, James Remar, Joe Anderson, and Kelli Garner, and comes to theatres and VOD October 31.

Warcraft Panel and Footage

Even with a short panel, Warcraft director Duncan Jones (Moon) revealed some great footage from the upcoming epic based on the infamous MMORPG encompassing several realms made up of armies of men, elves, trolls, death knights and more. Though we’re still waiting on a successful rendition of a cinematic adaptation of a video game, Warcraft could be it, seeing as it has been in the conception phase for what seems like forever. The footage shown by Jones makes us hope that this could be the film we have been anticipating and wanting to come from this immense game.
