Star Wars Rebels Trailer

Star Wars

In the run up to Comic-Con this weekend, studios and production companies are scrambling to get that last piece of marketing out before their panels, and Lucasfilm has created great excitement for their time in San Diego with a new trailer for Rebels, featuring the voice of their newly revealed cast member, Jason Isaacs.

Star Wars Rebels takes place after Revenge of the Sith, and the Jedi are being hunted. Obi-Wan Kenobi sends a message of warning to all Jedi around the galaxy, and we are introduced to the Jedi hunting squad. However, just when things are at their bleakest, force sensitive Ezra (Taylor Gray) joins up with Kanan (Freddie Prinze Jr.) to fight the forces of the Inquisitor and save the Jedi.

Star Wars Rebels also stars Vanessa Marshall, David Oyelowo and Steven Jay Blum, and premieres on Disney XD this fall.

Rock Shazam

With Comic-Con on our doorstep, Dwayne Johnson has revealed that he will be involved in an upcoming Warner Bros. superhero film, and based on his clues it sounds like The Rock will be playing Shazam in one of the solo films leaked in WB’s schedule.

“There’s a character out there that we’re going to announce very soon that I’m going to play,” Johnson said in an interview with Total Film. “And, I’ll just say this… he has the power of Superman.”

As part of their bid to keep up with the Marvel superhero machine, DC already has several films in the pipeline, including Shazam and Sandman solo films to go with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

James Gunn wants to direct Guardians 2

Marvel’s superheroes are getting a new group at the end of this month with the Guardians of the Galaxy, and even before the film’s release talk as started about a possible sequel if it does well. In a recent interview with Screenrant, Guardians director James Gunn has decisively stated his interest in directing the sequel and keeping his stamp firmly on the characters he feels so attached to.

“I’m actually in a somewhat weird position because if the movie does well, then I’m gonna make the sequel. And if it does okay then, well, I’ve already been offered other movies but I can only do those other movies if I don’t do the sequel, so it’s a weird situation.”

Marvel will most likely be announcing their upcoming films for Phase 3 at Comic-Con, including Doctor Strange and The Avengers 3, but we’ll have to wait and see whether a Guardians sequel will be part of their presentation.

Jake Gyllenhaal’s Nightcrawler Trailer

Jake Gyllenhaal is going for intensity with his latest role in Nightcrawler, as his character is in desperate need of a job. As the job hunt turns sour, he turns to the shady business of nighcrawling, using a video camera and police scanners to cover crimes and sell them to the news station. Gyllenhaal’s gaunt appearance makes full sense for his latest role, and though the trailer doesn’t tell us much about the story, it does showcase the desperation and intensity of the character.

Nightcrawler also stars Bill Paxton, Rene Russo and Riz Ahmed, and comes to theatres October 17 (US) and November 14 (UK).
